Customizing Your Toolbar

There’s a lot on the Creatives Are Community Toolbar, and you might not want all of it. Or you might want more.

Saving Space

In addition to the ability to hide buttons and menus (see below) The Creatives Are Community Toolbar enables you to tweak the amount of horizontal space the Toolbar requires–without hiding any buttons or menus. Selecting the Shrink Toolbar command from the Toolbar Settings and Options menu (far left, looks like the Creatives Are Community hand print logo) hides the titles of all menus on the Toolbar, producing a more compact, icon-only Toolbar, perfect for when you have limited screen real estate.

To restore the menu titles choose Unshrink Toolbar from the Toolbar Settings and Options menu.

You can also change the width of the Search box simply by dragging the line between the Search box and the Go button. Drag it to the right to increase the width of the Search box; drag it to the left to decrease the width.

Hiding Buttons and Menus

You can remove anything you don’t want with the simple customization dialog.

The Customize Dialog Box

The Customize Dialog Box

  1. Click the arrow beside the Toolbar Settings and Options button (far left, looks like the Creatives Are Community hand print logo).
  2. From the dropdown menu select Toolbar Options, which will open the Toolbar Options dialog box.
  3. Switch to the Predefined Components tab.
  4. To remove a button or menu from the Toolbar, simply clear the checkbox beside the item. For instance, if you don’t use Ping.fm, uncheck the box beside the blue “P” to hide it from your Toolbar and reclaim the space used by the Ping.fm button.

Adding Items

On the Personal Components tab of the Toolbar Options dialog you can elect to add special features to the Toolbar. Right on the toolbar you can have your local weather forecast, a radio station player, or alerts that tell you when you’ve received new e-mail. Check the box beside each option, and set any additional options that may appear. Click OK and your new components will be included on the Toolbar.

On the Useful Components tab (Windows version only) you’ll also find shortcuts to commonly used applications on your system, which you can also add to the Toolbar.

Select Gadgets from the Toolbar Settings and Options menu to browse and add to your Toolbar dozens of games, utilities, and applets that add functionality and fun to your Toolbar.
